April is the month we learn to love the blue glow of our devices…
First we got Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok trailer, in all its brilliance. It gave us Goth Cate Blanchett.
How about Sense8? Season 2 is coming. I watched the first season and found it fascinating. But it had all the flaws the Wachoskis always seem to have. They always overreach and take a genius idea and push it into nonsense. They talk down to their audience. They think they’re way deeper than they are. The story is interesting, and I’m curious as to where it might go. So I’ll be back for season 2, but with severe trepidation.
Charlize Theron kicking ass with high heels and a terrible British accent. This looks thin on plot but high on action. If it’s a worthy companion to the John Wick movies I’ll happily bring my eyeballs to the theater.
From Katherine Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) comes this rather gritty and intense looking film. The cast is stacked, including John Boyega, Anthony Mackie, John Krasinski, Jack Reynor, and Will Poulter. It’s a summer release, should be interesting to see how it does against the big tentpole flicks.
And the big one, from Star Wars celebration-The Last Jedi! Rian Johnson gives us a pretty stellar looking trailer. It looks like The Last Jedi will follow in the footsteps of The Force Awaken by mimicking the storyline of the original trilogy. New planets will be explored, x-wings will get blown up, BB-8 will roll around adorably, and we’ll get some training montages!
But does Luke go Dark Side? “The Jedi have to end.” I don’t think so, but if he does that’s just lazy damn story writing. I like the theory that we’re bringing symmetry to the Force, no more light and dark, but warriors who can wield the Force and also have some nice work-life balance. But we have to wait until December to find out! Stupid waiting.
